Less than a week after subduing Centerville 99/51 in the regular season finale the Pella High boys had a date with the Big Reds in the opening round of the class three-A postseason tournament. Centervilles strategy was to slow the pace but Pella was proficient at that as well using a suffocating defensive effort to beat the Big Reds 48-to-36 and advance to the second round. The Little Dutch scored the first 11 points of the gameand after Centerville scored the next six Pella ripped off nine in a row to take a double-digit lead it would never relinquish. After the game, Head Coach Mark Core noted some keys to the victory over the Big Reds. Kirk Korver led the Little Dutch with 23 points and 12 rebounds. They’re now 17-and-five on the season and will play Norwalk Thursday night in the district championship game at Oskaloosa.
