The number of unemployed Marion County residents increased
slightly in May. According to new figures issued by Iowa
Workforce Development, the county unemployment rate was
5.8 percent in May compared to 5.7 percent in April. As a
state, the unemployment rate for May was 5.8 percent – up
from 5.1 percent in April. Despite the increase, Iowa
remains below the national average of 9.4 percent.
