Several guests, including a State Senator, visited the Central College campus last week to tour the college’s green buildings and discuss the school’s environmental practices. Senator Rob Hogg of Cedar Rapids and board members of the Iowa Interfaith Power and Light toured Central’s three green buildings, including the soon-to-be-opened Education and Psychology building, which Central hopes will be the first platinum LEED-rated building in Iowa. “LEED” is short for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The college’s Vermeer Science Center was the first LEED-rated building in Iowa, and McKee Hall was the first residential LEED-rated building in the state.
