Seven Marion County World War II veterans will be among the 400 Central Iowa vets taking part in an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. next week.

The program provides all-expense paid trips for veterans to the Nation’s Capitol to see the new World War II memorial built in honor of their service. Pella residents Gary Gezel, Henry Monster, Robert Roorda, Eugene Stientjes, and Doyle VanDelune will make the trip, along with Harmon Wilke and Howard Dop of Knoxville.

Their flight, which was made possible with help from a $250,000 donation from Hy-Vee, will leave for Washington, D.C. on Tuesday.
