The first grapes of the fall harvest will be fully ripened next week, and to celebrate the occasion, the Tassel Ridge Winery near Leighton is hosting a lunch in the vineyard Saturday. The vineyard’s edelweiss variety of grapes will be the first to peak, which is expected to happen on Tuesday, according to vineyard manager Steve Richardson. The upcoming week will also give workers a chance to use the winery’s recently acquired mechanical harvester, which is expected to reduce the cost of harvesting and improve the quality of the wine produced. The Tassel Ridge Winery is located just off of Highway 163 between Pella and Oskaloosa.
