For the second year in a row, Pella Christian has started their football season with a win over New London; though the latest occurrence was no simple task. Through three quarters of play, the Eagles had their hands full and appeared to be in trouble after starting quarterback Kyle Nikkel went down with an ankle injury. In his absence, back-up Dan Hessing held his own; but Nikkel’s return in the 4th quarter was made all the more significant by a decision to change the play call at the line of scrimmage. That’s Pella Christian assistant coach Darryl De Ruiter. Nikkel’s touchdown run and the ensuing point after gave the Eagles a fifteen point cushion as they eventually cruised to a 42-20 victory. Up next for Pella Christian is their first “true” home game ever when they host PCM this coming Friday night.
