A former Major League Baseball player and Pella native is now helping turn a minor league program around as the team’s manager. 33-year-old Kory DeHaan played three years for the San Diego Padres, before taking a position on the staff of the Chico Outlaws in California. After a slow start to the season, the Outlaws fired manager Greg Cadaret and promoted DeHaan from hitting coach. Chico is 9-12 since DeHaan was installed as manager – and remain alive in the postseason hunt – with their next contest coming Tuesday night against the Yuma (Arizona) Scorpions.
