A memorial project by a 2002 Knoxville High School graduate to honor victims of the 9/11 attacks is the focus of a remembrance being held Friday at 9 a.m. outside the high school. In 2002 Laura Froyen started the memorial, which consists of a growth of trees on the south side of the high school with plaques on each tree with names of the fire fighters, police officers and other service men and women who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

The state-wide group Froyen partnered in, Trees Forever, has also named her project one of the top 20 for the organization in the past 20 years. Froyen says the Living Memorial is a lasting tribute to past and present servicemen and women, and encourages the public to attend the event at 9 a.m. outside the high school. Attendance by local fire and law enforcement personnel, and a wreath laying ceremony are planned.
