Work continues on the demolition of the North Overlook Beach at Lake Red Rock. Maintenance staff with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been removing old asphalt from the roadway this week, and will soon be tearing out the old retaining wall between the beach and the parking lot area.

The beach is in the first phase of a reconstruction project to repair damages caused by the flood of 2008 and is being funded by Federal Flood Recovery funds. Improvements for the area will include a new showerhouse and a beach that will be usable at high water levels.

The North Overlook Beach will remain closed until work is finished, likely following the 2010 summer season.
