A veteran of the Iraq War walking from Dallas, Texas to Northfield Minnesota to connect American and Iraqi children, made a stop in Knoxville over the weekend and on Monday. Gunner Swanson is originally from Bismarck, North Dakota, and served in Iraq from 2003-2004 as a member of the National Guard. Walking in “A Soldier’s March for Peace”, Swanson says he’s been walking from city to city, talking with youth and military family groups to help build relationships and empathy by exchanging letters between American children and children in Iraq and Afghanistan.
