Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat says there have been numerous rumors circulating about attempted child abductions with text messages, e-mails, and Facebook, among other communications. Sheriff Goemaat says the rumors regarding alleged attempted abductions Tuesday have no basis in fact.

Goemaat says that should law enforcement in the county encounter a situation where the public needs to be notified, they will contact KNIA/KRLS first so people will get the information immediately.

Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada says it’s important that residents check with law enforcement to verify any questionable messages they may receive. Goemaat encourages residents to always call law enforcement immediately if they see any suspicious activity, and that parents should talk with their children about the danger of interacting with strangers and getting into the vehicle with them.
