Marion County’s pre-season salt supply this winter was purchased $10 cheaper per ton compared to last year, and there’s more than enough on hand to withstand an above average snow, according to Marion County Engineer Roger Schletzbaum. He tells KNIA/KRLS News that although salt brought in later this year will be around close to $70 per ton, 400 tons of salt were already purchased at $60 per ton, saving $4,000 compared to last winter. Schletzbaum says there’s 1400 tons of salt stored, and the county used 1200 tons last winter, which he describes as ‘above-average’.
