A special issue will join the list of school board candidates on the ballot for those voting in the Twin Cedars School District on Tuesday. The issue is a vote on the revenue purpose statement, which approves the spending plan for funds from the state-wide one cent sales tax. Twin Cedars Superintendent Brian VanderSluis tells KNIA/KRLS News that it is most important for voters to know that the special issue will not increase taxes; is not a new tax; and its passage will allow the district to improve district facilities and equipment and provide property tax relief. The one-cent local option sales tax had been approved by a vote at the county level and was in place for several years before the Iowa Legislature changed it to a statewide sales tax that will sunset in 2029. School board elections are being held statewide on Tuesday.
