The Iowa Department of Education reports that a record number of Iowa schools are failing to meet the standards of federal No Child Left Behind legislation. Approximately 20%–293 of Iowa’s 1,442 schools fail to meet the legislative targets on test scores, attendance and graduation rates. Schools that fail to meet goals for 2 years in a row fall into the category of “in need of assistance.”

Area schools on the list include Knoxville High School and Twin Cedars Elementary School, both in reading proficiency.
