It would cost and estimated $9 million to finish the downtown Knoxville streetscape projects, in an extension of work that was completed on Robinson Street earlier this year. Streetscape Committee co-chair Jody Meyer tells KNIA/KRLS News that the estimated cost, by engineering company Veenstra & Kimm, as well as other information will be presented at the Knoxville City Council meeting Monday. She says they’d like to get the other streets done: the new streets would not only be visually more attractive, but the sewers underneath, many over 100 years old, would be replaced as part of the project. Meyer says the city could try to find funding through the local-option sales tax to pay for the project, with further discussion expected at Monday’s city council meeting.
