Agriculture and ag-related industry play an important role in Marion County’s economy, but it does not play as large of a role in the local economy as the statewide average. That’s according to new information gathered by Iowa State University Extension. In all, 6.6% of the jobs in Marion County are directly or indirectly linked to agriculture, compared to 16.5% in the state of Iowa.

Those agriculture-related jobs also account for 8.2% of the county’s economic output, or just under $300 million, whereas the state’s agriculture industry makes up nearly 27% of our economy, with just under $270 billion in economic output for the state of Iowa.
