A Marion County farm was recognized earlier this year as a “Century Farm” by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Farm Bureau. A spokesperson with the Department of Ag tells KNIA/KRLS News that Randy DeGeest received a “Century Farm” certificate and yard sign during a recognition ceremony at this year’s Iowa State Fair. To qualify as a “Century Farm,” a family must have owned at least 40 acres for 100 years or more.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship has partnered with the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation since 1976 to recognize families that have owned and worked a farm for over a century. The DeGeest farm was one of 297 farms that was recognized this year, drawing the statewide total to more than 16,500 farms that have received the recognition.
