Governor Chet Culver’s across-the-board cut in state spending by 10% will hit the state’s education budget hard, and will mean nearly $1 million less in state funding for the Pella Community School District this year. Pella School Board Secretary Jon Miller tells KNIA/KRLS news that the exact number is $994, 919 that the district will have to find other ways to cover.

Miller adds that it’s too early to know how the district will respond, but says they will likely begin formulating a strategy in the next couple of weeks. Previously, Knoxville School Board Secretary Craig Mobley cited a similar predicament for their district, as they anticipate approximately $905,000 less in state funding.
