Knoxville Schools Take Flu Prevention Steps

The Knoxville School District is working with health officials and taking precautions to help prevent the spread of flu this season. Superintendent Dr. Randy Flack tells KNIA/KRLS News that parents are being asked to meet their children at the end of the day outside the buildings instead of congregating in the corridors, which will help stop the spread of germs. Student trips to nursing homes and other facilities have been cancelled until further notice, and the elementary students will not be traveling to other buildings for annual Halloween “parades” that have been held in the past, among other precautions. Flack says the district’s absence rate has ranged from 3% to 10%, depending on the building and day.
