Pella swept Norwalk 25-9, 25-20 and 25-18 to win the outright Little Hawkeye Conference championship for the first time in school history last night with another balanced performance. Hali Steenhoek had 16 kills, Jordyn Vandelune added 7 kills, Brooke Fessler had 35 assists, 4 ace serves and 2 blocks. Lindsay Bentzinger had 12 digs and Hannah Forsythe added 5 ace serves. Pella coach Bob Fessler says winning the conference has been a goal all season and now they can celebrate. He says they had two conference goals, one was to finish undefeated in matches and another was to not lose a conference game in the process. They are 12-1 in conference games with their only loss to Pella Christian last week and at 6-0 in matches they can finish undefeated with a sweep at Oskaloosa Tuesday night. Last night was also senior night and the three seniors Jordyn Vandelune, Hannah Forsythe and Courtney Kelderman were honored for their contributions which Fessler says have been huge:

“Three of the last four years we have over 30 wins so they are well over 100 wins for their career which is truly amazing. They’re the foundation…they build, the younger kids look up to them and their leadership is just so strong. Jordyn (Vandelune) has been a 4 year starter for us and is one of the best all around players I’ve coached, Hannah Forsythe is such a great leader and motivator and Courtney Kelderman always has a smile on her face and never seems to get down and is so much fun to be around and always works so hard”

Pella is 30-5 overall and will close the regular season playing in the Knoxville Invitational Saturday then at Oskaloosa Tuesday before starting post season play the following week.
