A group of five journalism students from Pella High School will be attending a convention next month in the Nation’s Capitol. Pella Journalism instructor Ann Visser is a past president of the National Journalism Education Association, which co-sponsors the event in Washington, D.C. As a past president, Visser helped coordinate the convention, which she says she is excited about.

The High School Journalism Convention will include several competitions, opportunities to meet and learn from professionals, and workshops focusing on all areas of journalism. Television newsman Nick Clooney, father of actor George Clooney, will be the keynote speaker at the event, along with many other featured speakers.

The journalism students from Pella attending the convention raised their own money to take the trip, which was approved at this week’s School Board Meeting. The National High School Journalism Convention will run from November 12th through the 15th at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, D.C.
