The Pella Christian volleyball team battled their way through a tough Clarke team last night to advance to the Regional Finals, but it took all five games to get there. After winning game one, Pella Christian dropped the next two and found themselves in must-win situations in games four and five. Eagles’ Coach John Evenhouse said the girls did what they needed to win at a time when it mattered most.

“We just kept goin’ back and forth. Last game, we looked, and it was 10-9 – we were down – and we just say ‘hey, we’ve come back and they’ve come back, let’s just go out and score some points,’” said Evenhouse after the match. “I thought we played very nice, error-free volleyball right at the end of the game when it was on the line. The kids just did a good job.”

Pella Christian took game one 25-15, lost the second and third sets by identical 25-23 scores, before rallying 25-21 in game four and then winning the deciding set 15-12. The Eagles’ were led by over thirty combined kills from hitters Jenna Horstman and Paige Zylstra, while Hannah Vermeer served up 3 aces. Pella Christian will now face Mediapolis on Tuesday night in Washington in the 2-A Regional Finals.
