Pella Christian’s volleyball team continues to work their way toward the State Volleyball Tournament, following a sweep of Eddyville-Blakesburg last night in the Regional Quarterfinals. Pella Christian Coach John Evenhouse says the Rockets played hard the entire evening, but in the end, the Eagles’ hitters and precision serving was able to take over.

“We knew they [Eddyville-Blakesburg] were going to be tough. They’re not as fast as they have been in the past, and I think that hurt them a little bit,” said Evenhouse. “We were able to get some hits down, and once we got some energy going in the third game, we were able to do some of the things we wanted to do.”

Pella Christian won by scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-11. Outside hitter Jenna Horstman led the Eagles with seven kills, while setter Bekah Posthuma had five digs and seventeen assists. Posthuma also joined the Van Kootens – Ashley and Courtney – with three aces from the service line, while Hannah Ver Meer led the team in that category with four. Pella Christian’s next match is Friday night against Clarke, who defeated I-35 Tuesday night in five games. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be hosted at Pella High School.
