Cars may be moving slower on a portion of West Pleasant Street in Knoxville. The Knoxville City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance which would change the speed limit on West Pleasant to 35 mph between Willets Drive and 118th Place, and 45 m.p.h. west of 118th. Currently the speed limit for westbound traffic changes from 30 mph to 50 mph just west of Willets Drive. City manager Dick Schrad says there have been multiple complaints from residents living on 118th street that the current speed limits make it hazardous for them to turn onto Pleasant Street. He adds the city is also working with the county on reducing the county-run speed limit on West Pleasant.
