A middle school teacher at Pella Community Schools is the first winner of the KNIA/KRLS Ulrich Ford, Lincoln, Mercury Radio Teacher of the Month Award. Alan Dole, a 7th grade math teacher was selected based on his accomplishments and commitment to putting the students’ best interests first, among other qualifications.

Dole has taught at Pella Middle School for 27 years and has also been the Middle School Athletic Director for over 20 years. He has also coached 7th grade football and girls basketball and is currently the Middle School Softball Coach.

When work at the school isn’t keeping him busy, Dole says he enjoys biking, walking, sports, and playing board and card games. He and his wife Patty have three children: a daughter Jennifer, and sons Jeff and Jason.

Dole says he enjoys teaching middle school students because of the energy they bring to the classroom, and says he was surprised and honored to have received the monthly honor.

As a reward, Mr. Dole will receive the use of a vehicle for one month and a check to Pella Middle School for $250 from Ulrich Motors of Pella.

His nomination –

“I nominate Alan Dole – Pella Middle School.  He’s spent 27 years as 7th grade math teacher and later assumed additional role as Middle School Ath Director.  He’s well respected among peers and students, and he’s very effective with his teaching methods and ability to communicate with students of all abilities.  Alan is extremely committed to his profession and the future of our children, and he works tirelessly at leading a successfull Middle School athletic department  – with little or no recognition I might add.  He maintains a positive attitude always, and keeps kids’ interests first.

I have known Al personally and professionally for 25 years – I can speak first hand to his credentials, his integrity and committment to the education of Pella youth.  He would be a very deserving recipient!”
