Even if it gets colder, farmers in Marion County are hoping for one thing: sunshine. County ISU Extension Education Director Dale Miller says soggy soybeans and corn mean farmers will either have to wait for the sun to warm the fields, or pay extra for drying, which puts beans at a higher risk for damage. He says farmers could also sell their beans at a lower price to a co-op, which would then dry the beans for sale. Miller says the sooner dry weather comes the better: harvesting the low-to-the-ground soybeans in November runs a higher risk of damaging snows.
