Former Pella basketball standout Kirk Korver had a successful start to his collegiate career at the University of Missouri Kansas City Saturday night helping the Kangaroos to an 80-33 win over Truman State. Meanwhile older brother Kaleb began his junior season at Creighton with a 90-80 loss at number 21 Dayton. Kirk scored 12 points in his collegiate debut, connecting on 5-7 from the field including two three pointers and pulled down four rebounds in 19 minutes of action. The Kangaroos are 1-0 on the season and will host Lincoln University tomorrow. Kaleb started at guard for Creighton and scored three points with one rebound and one assist in 28 minutes of action. Creighton hosts Florida A&M tomorrow night. Last season Kaleb was named to the MVC’s Scholar-Athlete Second Team, and he moved into fifth in Creighton history for career three-point percentage at 43.5 percent, joining older brother Kyle in the top 5. He also ranked third in the MVC in three-point percentage. Kirk became the fourth Korver to play Division One college basketball following in older brothers Kyle, Klayton and Kaleb’s footsteps.
