The only team standing in the way of Central College’s bid for an outright Iowa Conference football championship is the team that was originally picked to win it. Defending champion Wartburg hosts the Dutch today and will try and spoil Central’s undefeated season in the season finale for the Dutch. Central Coach Jeff McMartin says just because the Dutch have clinched at least a share of the conference crown and the league’s automatic playoff berth doesn’t mean they plan on holding anything back.

“We will do anything in our power to win this football game; and regardless of two weeks from now,” says McMartin. “Because it’s not an outright title yet, and we have a chance at a 10-0 season, we have a chance to win at Wartburg, and those are all really special opportunities, and we’re not going to miss out on those special opportunities. We’ll have other special opportunities in two weeks, but this is right here, right now, in front of us; and that’s how we have to play this game.”

Kickoff from Walston-Hoover Stadium in Waverly is at 1:00 p.m. today, with Trevor Castle calling the play-by-play and beginning coverage at 12:45 p.m. on 92.1 fm, and streaming live at kniakrls.com.
