Center Loren Liming needed just 23 minutes of action to rack up his second straight double-double as the Central College men’s basketball team swamped Bethany Lutheran 87-58 Wednesday. Liming scored 22 points to go with a career-high 15 rebounds, five blocks two steals and two assists. He was 11-of-18 from the floor. Forward Jack Bruns came off the bench to score 13 points with seven rebounds while guard Miguel Ley added 12 points, four assists and four steals. Central (1-1) dominated on the glass, 59-33, and had eight blocks.

Cold shooting from the floor and a roster depleted by injury and illness put the Central College women’s basketball team in a tough spot last night, as the Dutch suffered an 82-53 loss to Grand View in their season opener. Central guard Sarah Paulsen led the Dutch with 19 points and 9 rebounds and Pella sophomore Haley Brillhart added nine points and five rebounds, but the team as a whole shot 27.6 percent from the floor, while the Vikings hit 55 percent of their shots and out-rebounded Central 43-31. The Central women will have to recover quickly, as they will take part in a tournament this Saturday in Bloomington, Illinois that will feature three teams ranked in the top seven in NCAA Division III.
