Electronics Among Popular Purchases on “Black Friday”

The largest holiday shopping day of the year is Friday, and consumer electronics are often some of the biggest sellers. Jo Goff, owner of the Nanjotronics Radio Shack in Knoxville, says flat-screen TVs, digital cameras and GPS units figure to be hot items again this season, adding that shopping locally allows resident to find what they need without driving long distances and keeps money circulating in the community.
“What people need to know is that money spent in the local stores turns around in the community,” says Goff. “It helps support our schools, [and] it helps support everything that goes on in this community”
In Pella, Radio Shack manager Jamie Veenstra says he expected this year’s “Black Friday” to be similar to previous years.
“We usually have a line. People start showing up as early as a half hour ahead of time, and there will be people outside waiting in their cars for the doors to open,” said Veenstra. “When the door opens, it’s a madhouse for a good hour, by the time we get everything cycled through the register and out the doors.”
The KNIA/KRLS Little Big Red Radio will be broadcasting live from Radio Shack and Stravers Cellular in Downtown Pella until 8:30 a.m., followed by another “Black Friday” sale broadcast at Bruxvoort’s Decorating Center from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
