After a bit of a nerve-wracking end to October, the early part of November has been very good to farmers harvesting the fall crop. Tracy Gathman, General Manager of Two Rivers Cooperative in Pella, says the harvest has been at full speed for the past ten days and estimates that nearly all of the soybeans and as much as 75% of the corn crop is out of the field in his trade area.

Gathman says the mild, dry weather has also continued to help corn and beans dry out, with moisture levels on soybeans around 11% and corn at 18-22% moisture levels. Gathman adds that patience has paid off for area farmers, as many of the customers he has talked with have been very pleased with yields and many believe the fall harvest may even be better than anticipated.
