Knoxville Audit Shows Increase in Receipts

A state audit shows a 45% increase in Knoxville’s cash receipts last fiscal year compared to 2007-2008, but that’s primarily due to a 27% hike in sewer user fees in January. City Manager Dick Schrad says the increase is helping pay for sewer improvement mandates from the Department of Natural Resources to prevent sewer overflow. Schrad says the audit reflects that the city hasn’t spent all of the money it’s getting from user fees because sewer improvements are ongoing. He adds this year’s audit didn’t have any outstanding issues or comments.
