The Pella Christian volleyball team wrapped up their season last Thursday with an opening-round loss to Mount Vernon in the Lady Eagles’ third consecutive trip to the State Tournament. Pella Christian Coach John Evenhouse says that on the surface, a 23-15 record doesn’t look very impressive, but many of those losses were against top programs.

“If you looked at the teams that were at State, we played probably ten or eleven of those teams. So, when you have fifteen losses, a lot of those came against very good ball clubs and they played better than us,” said Evenhouse. “Overall, we did a great job. I don’t want to downgrade our schedule and play teams that we can beat just to get a nice record. I think one of the reasons we go to State is that we play so many good teams during the year.”

Pella Christian will lose six seniors to graduation, but will also return several experienced players, including three of their top four hitters.
