The Pella Christian Volleyball team is preparing for their opening round match at the State Volleyball Tournament fully aware of what they’re up against. The Eagles will face top-seeded Mount Vernon, and Pella Christian Head Coach John Evenhouse says he and the team have talked at-length about a “nothing to lose” approach to the match.

“This is gonna be a tough one for us. We’ve talked about it quite a bit and said we have nothing to lose, we’re unranked and nobody expects us to do anything,” said Evenhouse. “What we want to do is just go out and do our best, and if we can sneak a win out there [the State Tournament] and maybe make them a little bit nervous, you never know what’s going to happen. It’s a tall order, but we’re up to the task, we’re gonna go after them.”

The Mustangs are 40-1 and return a lot of talent from a team that played deep into the State Tournament last year in Class 3-A. Pella Christian is 23-14 overall and coming in off of a big win over #8 Mediapolis in last week’s Regional Final. The match begins at 7:15 p.m. in the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids with live coverage of the action on 92.1 fm KRLS starting at 7:00 p.m. Pre-sale tickets are also available at the Pella Christian High School Office from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
