Three Pella High School journalism students won awards in On-the-Spot contests at a convention that began last week in Washington, D.C. Senior Caroline Phillips was awarded an excellent in advertising design while juniors Megan Card and Jacob Martin earned honorable mentions in feature writing and logo design at the National Journalism Education Association and National Scholastic Press Association Convention. Only one-third of the students competing in the contests were honored.

Two other students – junior Seth Vander Horst and sophomore Madeline Meyer – also made the trip, along with advisor Ann Visser and chaperone Mary Ann Emerick. The students paid their own way to attend the convention, which ran from last Thursday through Sunday.
