The Knoxville School Board received a report from high school Principal Kevin Crawford on high school student achievement this week. Crawford stressed a focus on literacy skill improvement, and different classroom efforts being done to help students on an individual basis. In other news, the Board tabbed a discussion on whether or not to offer early retirement incentives for 2009-10. Incentives are one way the district tries to save money by hiring new teachers in at a lower salary; however fewer than expected teachers have recently participated in the program. The Board also set April 6 as the special election date for approval of a revue purpose statement for physical plant projects, although the statement will be approved at a future meeting.
