A disastrous start settled the outcome early as the Central College women’s basketball team suffered through an 85-56 defeat at Wisconsin.-Platteville Saturday. Wisconsin.-Platteville jumped to a 15-0 lead as Central misfired on its first 13 shots before a Kelsey Schuring bucket got the Dutch on the board with 13:16 left in the first half. Freshman forward Alyssa Schwartz had a game-high 18 points and seven rebounds for Central. Schuring had 13 points and guard-forward Sarah Paulson had seven points with a career-high 12 rebounds and five assists. The Dutch did hold a 29-20 first-half rebounding advantage but were outboarded 45-42 for the game. Central shot just 23.1 percent in the first half and 30.3 percent for the game. It won’t be an easy kickoff to the league slate. Central plays host to Number. 19-ranked Simpson College Wednesday. Simpson is rated No. 15 by D3hoops.com. The contest is part of a women’s-men’s doubleheader at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium, starting at 6 p.m. with the men’s game tipping at 8 p.m.
