The Pella boys cross country team’s State Championship performance in Fort Dodge at the end of last month is a well-known story at this point, but the fate of their championship trophy has a story of its own. During celebratory photos following the meet, the statue on the trophy was broken off; but it will be replaced before the trophy goes on display in the halls of Pella High School. Pella Cross Country Coach Doug Cutler said even though the team was fearful he’d be upset, he used the point to emphasize the season’s theme of “unbreakable.” He told the team that records and trophies can be broken, but the bonds created during the past season will hopefully stay together for a long time.
