Around 40 volunteers helped clean-up a Lake Red Rock campground last week that’s being revived as the area’s first public site for primitive camping, according to Jaime Gyolai with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The volunteer clean-up day for Hickory Ridge was a partnership between the Red Rock Lake Association, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, with help from Central College biology professor Russ Benedict and his students, and Vermeer Manufacturing for lending a chipper for the project. Pledges are still needed for the project. To pledge or for more information, call Anita at 515-288-1846.
