An agreement with an architectural and engineering firm for an assessment of Pella’s indoor swimming pool facility was approved at Tuesday’s Pella City Council meeting. Pella City manager Mike Nardini says the assessment by Shive-Hattery will recognize and estimate the costs of the capital improvements needed in the deteriorating structure.

The central piece of information will be an analysis of the costs of repairs compared to the expense of constructing a new facility. The assessment is expected to be completed in six weeks at a total cost not to exceed $25,000; which represents about a half percent of the estimated costs of the needed repairs. Pella’s indoor pool was constructed in 1976.
