The Knoxville girls kept their perfect record in tact with a 61-45 win over Pella Christian last night. The Panthers were able to gain control with a late first quarter and early second quarter 11-0 run to build a 27-16 halftime lead. Pella Christian battled back to within six after three quarters but Knoxville answered right back putting together another run to build the lead back to double digits. Pella Christian made one final run to again cut it down to a six point game midway through the fourth quarter but again Knoxville answered the call and hit shots while playing tough defense on their way to the win. Knoxville coach Jim Uitermarkt said he was impressed with the way his girls never paniced and answered the late rally by Pella Christian.
Knoxville connected on 10-18 from three point range including four from Lacy Stevenson and three from Sam Abens. Pella Christian coach Kevin Van Maanen said the Eagles just struggled defensively all night long. Knoxville had three girls in double figures led by Stevenson and Alex Abens each with 16 and Sam Abens added 15. Pella Christian was led by Shelby Weaver with 12 points while Jasmin Schelhaas and Cali Vink each added 8. Knoxville improved to 6-0 on the season and 4-0 in the LHC while Pella Christian fell to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the LHC. Knoxville is off tonight and will play at Albia Thursday while Pella Christian returns home to host Newton tonight. You can hear the Pella Christian game streamed live on kniakrls.com with Jamie Brockman and Wynne Veenstra starting at 6pm tonight. There will be a delayed broadcdast around 10pm tonight on 92.1 FM KRLS.
