Pella’s street maintenance department says they’re prepared for the winter storm that is moving into the region, but the combination of precipitation could pose some issues. Pella Public Works Director Denny Buyert says workers are trying to clear away snow and ice from storm water intakes to help prevent flooding.

Buyert says the combination of potentially heavy rain and melting ice and snow would likely create minor street flooding in some areas, which is typical for winter rains. He adds that the city will use sand and salt sparingly to prevent wasting material that will be ineffective during rain or temperatures above freezing.
