The activation of snow ordinances in Pella and Knoxville this week was met with successful compliance rates overall. In Pella, a total of just 37 citations were issued to the owners of vehicles parked along the sides of residential streets. Pella Police Lieutenant John Van Haaften says the magnitude of the winter storm and residents’ prior knowledge of the snow ordinance likely played a role in a reduced amount of citations.
In Knoxville, Police Chief Dan Losada says that around 70 snow ordinance violations were ticketed, which was around what was expected. When Marion County cities enact snow ordinances, city officials will contact KNIA/KRLS first to get the word out. During severe winter weather, KNIA/KRLS works with the National Weather Service, Weather Eye weather center and local officials to provide you with the most up-to-date information.
