A great deal of thought goes into selecting that perfect centerpiece for the holidays, but if you’re still undecided in the real versus artificial debate, consider the environment. Paul Vander Streek with Vander Streek Acres of Pella says most artificial trees come from China or Taiwan and are made from petroleum products, where as an Iowa-grown evergreen supports the local economy and is a renewable resource. Vander Streek adds that after the holidays, a natural tree can also be returned to the environment in a variety of ways.
