A recently opened restaurant in Pella has been forced to close its doors temporarily to repair damage caused by a broken water line. Debbie Apostolopoulos, one of the owners of Kaldera Restaurant and Lounge, says a break in a water line above the women’s restroom in the restaurant caused extensive damage to the wood flooring and the ceiling in that area. The restaurant, located at 1205 Washington, had just opened eight months ago and had brand new hardwood floors installed.

The break happened sometime between closing on Tuesday night and opening Wednesday morning. Apostolopoulos says it will take twelve days for the torn-up floor to dry out before new flooring can be installed. The time needed for repairs and clean-up has forced the restaurant to cancel several holiday parties as well. Apostolopoulos says they apologize to their customers for the closure and can’t wait to have people return when the business re-opens in January.
