The Knoxville Public Library has partnered with the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service to encourage Iowans to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 18th, by doing some community service. The Knoxville Public Library has set up the Food for Fines Day to give community members a chance to help out those in need while gaining something themselves as well. For each non-perishable food item brought into the library between 10 am and 8 pm on Monday January 18th the library will deduct $1.00 off any fines due on patron’s accounts. The limit is $50 per account and food items must be clean, current date and non-perishable.
