The Pella boys knew they’d be in for a tough fight with Grinnell and after a close first half Pella was able to pull away for a 51-39 win over Grinnell. The Tigers led 12-8 after one quarter but Pella outscored thenm 17-10 in the second quarter to earn a 25-22 halftime advantage. The Little Dutch were able to hold Grinnell to 17 total second half points and get the win. Coach Mark Core said they knew Grinnell would be ready and hungry for a win and both teams played intense defense. One key moment in the game was with Pella leading 31-25 midway through the third quarter, Grinnell went on a 5-0 run to close within one point, Coach Core then called timeout and adjusted their defense and Pella went on a 13-0 run into the first couple minutes of the fourth quarter to re gain control of the game. Nathan Buchheit led Pella with 19 points, and Blaine Forsythe added 15 as Pella improved to 12-2 with the win and 10-1 in the LHC. Pella will host Pella Christian on Tuesday night.
