For the second time this season, the Pella Christian girls basketball team handed Newton a lopsided loss, as the Eagles dropped the Cardinals 45-26 last night in Little Hawkeye Conference Play. Pella Christian started off slow, but jumped out to a significant lead in the second quarter after an offensive burst from senior Jackie Veenstra.

“I thought she did a great job inside and I thought we could have gotten the ball to her more, but we missed her quite a few times and I thought we could have taken advantage of that,” said Pella Christian Head Coach Kevin Van Maanen. “Then in the start of the third quarter, they [Newton] took advantage of us and really pounded it inside and got Jackie in foul trouble and then we had to sit her quite a bit down the stretch be cause she had four [fouls].”

Veenstra led Pella Christian on offense with 13 points, all of which came in the first half. Teammate Courtney Van Kooten paced the team on the glass with a game-high 8 rebounds. The win improves the Pella Christian girls to 10-8 overall and 7-5 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The Eagles are back in action today with a non-conference contest at Eddyville-Blakesburg.
