The Pella Community Foundation recently announced the recipients of the 2010 grant cycle. In all, 34 local non-profit organizations received a total of $50,000. It was the third consecutive year that the Pella Community Foundation was able to award that amount.
The recipients were selected from 43 qualified applications requesting more than $80,000 for various projects. Individual grants ranged from $100 for Kinship of Pella to purchase Photoshop software to $3,000 for ceramic potter’s wheels at the City of Pella Art Center. Also included was a $6,000 block grant for the Council for Educational Excellence to supply “mini-grants” to local teachers.
The Pella Community Foundation is able to provide the grants to local non-profit organizations through the returns on investments made with donated funds. Foundation president Jim Brandl said the Grant Distribution Committee “did an outstanding job in funding a wonderful cross-section of projects which will have an impact on the quality of life in Pella.”
