Marion County Democrats and Republicans will take part in the statewide caucuses Saturday. The Democratic caucus for all 17 precincts will be held in the Knoxville Community Senior Center at 308 East Montgomery Street; while the Republican caucus locations for Marion County will be split. Those in Pella precincts 1, 2, 3, and 4; along with the Lake Prairie and Otley precincts will caucus at the Madison Elementary School at 950 East University in Pella in Pella, with all remaining precincts holding their caucus at the Celebrate Community Church at 1005 North Lincoln Street in Knoxville.

Pat Van Zante, Chair of the Marion County Democratic Party says that participation in the historic Iowa caucuses is grass-roots organizing at its best, and that attendance allows one to help shape the vision of the party as we head into the upcoming election. Marion County Republican Party Chair Irene Blom adds that if people have concerns about an issue or have something they really want to make known, then Saturday’s caucuses are the time for them to come and make themselves known and bring their vote – or plank – in.

At the caucuses, both parties will elect precinct committee persons to the County Central Committee, form a Platform Committee and elect delegates and alternates to the Marion County convention, which will be held later this spring. Both the Marion County Republican and Democratic Caucuses will be held on Saturday, starting at 1:00 p.m.
